The Graveyard Book

“If you dare nothing, then when the day is over, nothing is all you will have gained.”
Nobody Owens is a toddler when he escapes the assassin sent to murder his entire family. He seeks refuge in a nearby graveyard that becomes his home. Nobody grows up under the guardianship of a couple and a mentor named Silas that vow to protect him under any and all circumstances. This is a remarkable fantasy story involving ghosts, legends, and lessons to be learned. The reader embarks across time with the retelling of many stories by the people who lived them. I could feel Nobody growing as I read, but this made for a pretty inevitable ending. I love how the story is crafted, and would like to walk around in Neil Gaiman’s head for a while. It takes true creativity and talent to orchestrate a story of this level.
